BY PLANE
There
is a lot of important vocabulary to learn if you ever travel by plane.
Let's look at some of the more important words and phrases that will help
your trip go smoothly:
*
check-in counter: This is the first place you go in the airport. You show
your plane ticket here (and passport if you're traveling internationally)
and turn in your luggage.
*
customs: This is the procedure for inspecting goods and baggage when entering
a country. A customs official might ask you if you're carrying certain
items in your suitcase, or he may inspect what's inside.
*
baggage claim: This is the area in the airport where you can pick up (or
"claim") your luggage after your trip.
*
take off: This is the point when the airplane leaves the runway; the act
of becoming airborne.
*
landing: This is the point at the end of the trip, when the airplane begins
its descent and "lands" on the runway.
